Røst sits at the edge of the open sea and is known for halibut, cod and saithe. Skrei (winter cod) fishing is strong from February to April, halibut peaks from June to September, and saithe is caught throughout the season. The area lies north of 62°N, so the cod minimum size is 55 cm in coastal fishing (within four nautical miles of the baselines) and 44 cm further out.
