The Vestfjord and coastal waters around Bodø are known for cod, saithe, haddock and halibut. Saltstraumen is particularly productive for large saithe and cod thanks to the strong tidal current. The winter skrei (spawning cod) moves into the Vestfjord from February to April. Bodø lies north of 62°N, so the cod minimum size is 44 cm farther than four nautical miles from the baselines and 55 cm within four nautical miles of the baselines, and halibut has a closed season from 20 December to 20 April.

How do I get to Bodø?
Bodø Airport (BOO) lies approx. 3 km from the harbour and has daily direct flights from Oslo, Trondheim and other Norwegian cities. Bodø is also the terminus of the Nordland Railway from Trondheim, and the Hurtigruten coastal steamer calls daily. The ferry from Bodø to Moskenes in Lofoten takes about 3.5 hours.
