Tips from experienced anglers

  1. 1The Brensholmen (Kvaløya)–Botnhamn ferry is the fastest route from Tromsø airport -- check Torghatten Nord timetables before departure.
  2. 2Book the NOK 2,500 day package once to get fuel and rods sorted -- it gets you on the water faster.
  3. 3Mind the rules north of 62°N: cod minimum 44 cm, haddock 40 cm, halibut allowed outside the closed season 20 December–20 April.

Frequently asked questions about Fjordbotn Camping

What boats does Fjordbotn Camping rent out?
18 ft Sting boats with 40 and 50 hp engines. Each boat has an echo sounder, GPS, AIS tracking and life vests. Suited for four anglers. Fuel is billed separately except inside the day package.
Do I need a boat licence to rent a boat?
Yes, if you were born after 1 January 1980. The Norwegian boat licence (or an equivalent foreign certificate) is required for boats with engines over 25 hp or longer than 8 metres. Bring original documentation at pick-up.
Which species can I expect in Stønesbotn?
Cod, saithe and haddock are the most common. Halibut shows up for those who work deeper edges, and sea trout are taken from shore in spring. Stønesbotn lies north of 62°N, so the minimum sizes are 44 cm for cod and 40 cm for haddock.
How do I get to Botnhamn?
From Tromsø airport, drive to Brensholmen on Kvaløya and take the ferry to Botnhamn. The camp is 12 km from the ferry terminal. From Finnsnes the drive is 45 km via Gibostad. E10 and county roads 86/862 cover the rest of Senja.
When is the camp open?
