- 1The Bleiksdjupet canyon off Bleik (about 13 km from Andenes) is one of the best halibut locations in Vesterålen. Book a guided trip well ahead in July and August.
- 2Check the 15 kg per person export quota for fish and fish products (age 12+) before traveling home. Andenes is north of 62°N, so minimum sizes are 44 cm for cod and 40 cm for haddock.
- 3Combine fishing with a whale safari from Andenes. Sperm whales are present year-round at Bleiksdjupet, and orcas pass through during winter.

The sea cabins are sold primarily as accommodation, not as a full fishing camp. The reception can arrange whale safaris, sea-fishing trips and guided deep-water trips with third-party operators in Andenes. Book these separately at the time of reservation.
What is Bleiksdjupet, and why does it matter for fishing?
Bleiksdjupet is an underwater canyon that starts just off Bleik on the western side of Andøya. The seabed drops from about 100 m to over 1,000 m within a few nautical miles, drawing food up from the deep. The area is known for halibut, cod and redfish, and for sperm whales feeding on deepwater squid.
Which minimum sizes apply to fish caught at Andenes?
Andenes lies north of 62°N. Minimum sizes are 44 cm for cod and 40 cm for haddock. Halibut must be at least 84 cm. Saithe has no minimum size north of 62°N. Halibut fishing is closed from 20 December to 31 March. Check the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries for the current rules before each trip.
How do I get to Lankanholmen Sjøhus?
Andøya Airport (ANX) is about 3 km from the harbor, with daily departures to and from Bodø and Tromsø. Airport bus and taxi run to the center. By car, take the Fv82 north through Vesterålen to Andenes. The Hurtigruten coastal steamer stops at Risøyhamn about an hour south of Andenes.
